This building is the original kitchen of the property, built by Colonel Charles Lynch using bricks made on the plantation. Though detailed records do not exist, the Brick Kitchen was likely built in the early 1800s. It was common for kitchens to be located outside the main house due to fears of fire, excessive warmth in the summer months, and the odors of cooking food. When the current house was built, a button connected to a bell in the kitchen was located in the Dining Room floor. The original flagstone floor was removed and now connects the Brick Kitchen to the main house.
Looking closely at the walls, one can see the horse hair mixed with the plaster to assist in bonding.
