About Avoca Museum

Avoca, the principal architectural landmark of the Town of Altavista, is an American Queen Anne-style house, designed by architect J.M.B. Lewis and built in 1901. Designated a Virginia Historic Landmark and listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Avoca is the home site of Revolutionary Patriot Colonel Charles Lynch.

Museum operating hours:

Avoca Museum is open to the public on Thursdays through Saturdays, April through October. The museum is closed for tours on days of special or private events (see BOOKINGS list to the right).

Thursday - Saturday    11 AM - 3 PM

Special Events: Please note that during special events, which are listed to the right, that the museum will be closed for tours. Tours may be arranged on an appointment basis by calling 434-369-1076. Please call the museum if you have any questions pertaining to tours.

 

Weddings & Private Rentals

Enjoy your private event with the ambience of our 1901 Queen Anne Victorian mansion. Avoca's grounds feature a lovely, well-kept Victorian garden, an arboretum which covers a half acre of land, a covered pavilion and more at an amazing value.
