About Avoca Museum

Avoca, the principal architectural landmark of the Town of Altavista, is an American Queen Anne-style house, designed by architect J.M.B. Lewis and built in 1901. Designated a Virginia Historic Landmark and listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Avoca is the home site of Revolutionary Patriot Colonel Charles Lynch.

Museum operating hours:

Avoca Museum is open to the public on Thursdays through Sundays, April through October.

Thursday - Saturday                 11 AM - 3 PM

Sunday                                 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM

PLEASE NOTE: The house and grounds are closed on days of special events. Please check the schedule to the right for a listing of those dates.

Parts of the museum may be closed July 25-August 6 for scheduled restoration work. Please call for more details.

Weddings & Private Rentals

Enjoy your private event with the ambience of our 1901 Queen Anne Victorian mansion. Avoca's grounds feature a lovely, well-kept Victorian garden, an arboretum which covers a half acre of land, a covered pavilion and more at an amazing value.
