Established by the General Assembly in 2020, the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250) serves to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War, and the independence of the United States. As one of the original colonies and future states, Virginia holds a significant place in this history. The VA250 Commission, along with its local chapters, plays a crucial role in organizing and promoting these commemorative activities. Step back in time and immerse yourself in the vibrant history of America's fight for independence at Avoca Museum’s two-day "Join the Revolution! America 250." This unforgettable event commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States and promises a day filled with engaging activities and educational experiences for all ages.
Friday April 25th 2025 - Student Day (Registration Required)
Kick off the celebration with a special day dedicated to elementary and middle school students! This educational event will feature 9 interactive stations, each designed to captivate young minds and bring history to life. Each station will be time-based, ensuring students can experience all aspects of the Revolutionary era in a structured and engaging manner. A specific schedule is TBA. Meet interpreters from Patrick Henry’s final home, Red Hill, and learn about the life, legacy, and fiery oratory of Virginia’s first governor and legendary Revolutionary patriot.

12:00 PM – Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” Speech
Dramatically performed by Patrick Henry Jolly, descendant of Patrick Henry.
