The Avoca Museum is a stunning 1901 Victorian Mansion surrounded by a lavish lawn with exquisite grounds. We are nestled in the quaint town of Altavista located in Central Virginia. Whether you are planning an intimate ceremony or an extravagant reception Avoca is the perfect affordable and elegant wedding venue.
The iconic mansion is the stunning focal point of Avoca, and brides adore getting dressed and ready for their day in the gorgeous tower room on the second floor of Avoca. Our colonial cabin is a great option as the groom's suite. The entire mansion is accessible to the wedding party throughout the day for plenty of spaces to lounge and prepare for the main event!
Separating the cabin and the mansion is our meticulously maintained lawn. The lawn and outdoor tent space accommodate up to 120 people for a ceremony and reception. Inside the mansion, we can accommodate 50 people for a ceremony, cocktail hour, or cake cutting. The customizable options at Avoca are endless!

The rehearsal period may be scheduled anytime the day before, subject to Avoca’s approval. The recommended period is 3 to 6 pm. On wedding day, the recommended period is 9 am to 11 pm (14 hours). This may be adjusted to earlier in the day (i.e. 7 am to 9 pm) based on preference.

Items including decorations, wedding dress, attire, beverages, signage, etc. may be stored in the Avoca mansion or visitor center the night before the wedding day. We request that all items are removed before the wedding day rental concludes. Vehicles are permitted to drive onto a portion of the main lawn for loading and unloading.

We provide our recommended vendor list to our booked couples as a resource; however, we do not require you to use them. Vendors on wheels (food, coffee, dessert trucks) are also allowed on the Avoca main lawn to serve guests. A planner or coordinator is a wonderful resource but not required.

Sparklers are absolutely allowed! Open flames are not permitted inside the mansion but are allowed outdoors. Hurricane vases or glass sleeves are recommended to avoid candles being blown out by the wind.

Avoca’s 30' x 60' event tent offers rain coverage, which can double as a ceremony and reception space. Avoca can also provide a 20' x 50' tent to cover the ceremony site. For a more intimate option, the Avoca mansion can host up to 40 seated guests or 50 standing for an indoor ceremony.
